Javelina Arizona and Art

Javelina run wild in Arizona and are dangerous. This one however won't hurt you. Unless it's a very warm (115) day and you touch it...then it might burn.

Javelina run in packs of from two to twenty, are most active during the day and the best thing to do if you run into them is to get away fast. They are a member of the peccary family, weigh about 40lbs and originated in S. America. A video for your pleasure...

Oh, my goodness! So they could be like, on your patio? Eeep! You need to make a javelina cuff!

I have never seen anything like this before, Rose. Do you see them in your neighborhood or only in the wild?

We haven't seen them in our neighborhood. But they are seen in communities like North Scottsdale where it is still a bit more desert. The only other place that I've seen something like these is when I lived in Berlin and there were wild boar in some of the foresty parks.

They're kind of like wild pigs. There's a restaurant right outside of Tucson where you can watch them (& much cute little quail birds) while you eat. They live in the desert surrounding the restaurant. They're interesting, but I think I prefer statues & stuffed toys.

The husby and I watched a show on tv recently about how wild pigs in general are becoming more and more of a problem in the United States {especially in the south}, and I honestly had no idea. I can't say I've ever seen a wild pig wandering down the road, but then again, I hear they are out there... so be safe okay? :)

You know this isn't even a statue of a javelina, right? Javelinas don't have tails like this. This is a statue of a wild boar, or a statue of a javelina done by someone who has no clue what one even looks like the face, especially around the nose and the top of the head, is also way off of a real javelina.

Kirby...you are right. Even though I've seen javelinas I just took the word of the homeowner. They had the statue created for their property. I figured it may have been a different version then what I was use to here in Arizona. Thanks for taking the time to leave a note.
