Mass Communication or Confusion

Information

It swirls in so many different directions. It's mind numbing. It's contradictory. It's too much.

There are times that I wish for simpler days. Days that I didn't feel like I was bombarded by the latest theory, trend or discovery times 1000. I seem to be too easily distracted and almost feel like I have ADD. I use to be able to focus for hours on a project. But, have noticed that while I'm working on a project that I love, my mind races to start ticking off the "other" things that I need to be doing. I can't seem to simply enjoy the moment. I need to fix this.

It's hurry up to keep up, catch up, or get ahead. What happens when you chose not to play the game? Does your life become more or less complete? If you don't keep up with the world news are you really behind the times? It seems that one news story contradicts another, be it today or a year from today. For example, we have all been told that red meat is bad for us, but just this week it was reported that it's not red meat that is bad, it's processed meat (which does make sense). How many times are we told that if we are doing this or aren't doing that it is bad for us and then recanted at some point in the future?

How do you handle all of the information? Do you find yourself frozen or overwhelmed?

Mass communication = mass confusion...

Overwhelmed. Sometimes I wish for simpler times. I used to be able to sit & read a book if I wanted to, now I feel like there are too many other things I need to do. I don't want to 'lose ground' by stepping back, but maybe that would be for the best. It's tough to do, at least for me.

It seems a real catch 22. I feel like I have to keep plugged in to get myself noticed, promote my business etc.., and keeping plugged in keeps me from my business. Maybe I need to set the egg timer when I sit down at the computer. Ding!

I know how you feel! I have the hardest time concentrating sometimes due to the bombardment of other things going on in my life... I find that it helps to have detailed to-do lists, but even then that is overwhelming because then I think I should get some stuff done off my lists... It's a no-win situation!

I agree with you all. Sometimes I feel like I have the blindfold on and spinning, point to see which one or say "enny mighty mo, catch a tiger by its toe" and go on to the next one. Let's all take a deep breathe together......................... Ok now get going, NO TIME TO WASTE! :D

I think you can't win, so a little of what you fancy can't be too bad!

I can relate. I feel like I'm doing 20 things at once and none of them well. Yet, I keep taking on more. It's exhausting!

I've been feeling like this since going through menopause and the solutions I FINALLY came up with:

~ turn off the TV news: know that only the BEST viewer grabbing stories will surface.
~ listen to my mp3 player; always trying to find new music that inspire; no longer being particular to only one style.
~ write EVERYTHING down in one notebook at a time; that way I can always review things I've forgotten!! :D
~ sit for 5 minutes and try to "center" myself; it helps to calm down my mind.
~ if I want to sit around the house all day, I actually do... this is something I wouldn't have even thought about when I was in my 30's; whatever I have to do, wash or housework will still be there tomorrow!! lol
~ about food... I just listen to my body. If I can't ice cream; sadly, I don't eat ice cream; but I find a substitute I can have and don't listen to if it's good or bad. Heck it's my life and if I want to eat some meat, darn it I'll have it. lol :D

Believe me sweetie, it's not you, it's the times and it's an individual thing to adapt... all my best!

So glad to know that others struggle with this as well. I got a small notebook and am creating my list. Thanks for all of the suggestions everyone.

There's another way to look at this...I say to myself, "Wow, this is great. I can plug in to what is happening in the creative world around the world!!!" In an hour a day, I can review a heck of a lot thanks to today's technological world. And I have that many more people sorting it for me (thank you Rose Hughes for this one), working for me, with me, to learn and grow. I'd happily give up daily tv for a daily romp around the world, thanks.
What is the POSITIVE impact - what is the best way we can use this tool? Call me Pollyanna.

Natalie...I agree that the internet has certainly made life and information more accessible. I am thrilled to be able to talk to so many people all around the world. But, I do feel it can become overwhelming. I also believe that the rush to get information out, gives us a lot of mis-information. Our critical thinking radar needs to be on all of the time.

Difinitely overwhelmed! My mother is always yelling at me for not keeping up with current events. I guess I'm just lost in my own little world...choosing to shut out all the chaos!
