looks like a collared lizard to me. You are still in AZ? They run on their back legs, very cool! AZ is a wonderful wonderland of reptiles. I recommend investing in a good reptile ID book, to carry in your pocket! It is better than running to the computer to try to ID them. But if not, i am happy to oblige! I miss AZ and the high desert, and lizards are some of my favs!
Can't believe you were able to capture a photo! All my lizards dash away too quickly. Like FishStikks, I have (or see, at least) only the smaller varieties, the ones that truly drive my dogs to distractions. :)
I love lizards. My son used to have quite a few in huge tanks (they're not wild in UK). Not such fun when the food source (crickets) got free. I found one chomping my arm in bed one night. yuck.

My lizards are all of the small variety that like to hang out on the sides of my wall. I'm afraid this big boy would fall trying stunts like that.
He's a beauty for sure though!
He looks like what we call a spiny lizard in Texas, called a rail lizard elsewhere. We had a large one for a while.

I do not know... but what a cutie!!
You need to put up a web cam in your yard! You'd have visitors checking it out all the time! You have the coolest critters running through there!
