Wildlife in my front yard -- Coyotes

I don't have to visit a zoo to see wildlife.

My office/studio is at the front of my home and my desk is next to window that looks out on my front yard. If you have been reading my blog for a while you have seen bunnies and roadrunners (I actually took a short video of the roadrunners, but haven't posted it yet). I have taken pictures of each in about this same area. As you can see the lantana is now frost bitten.. (yes, it really does get cold in the Phoenix area)

Now you get to see the local coyotes. I didn't get very good pictures since I didn't want to spook them by raising the blinds...I had to capture them between the slats. There were two of them and they are younger. Can you guess what they were after? The bunnies.

The bunnies have a home under my lantana and lavender. I didn't get a picture, but they each took a position on each side of the lantana and then one would pounce on the flowers, trying to flush the bunnies out. Little do the coyotes know that there is a pvc pipe under there that the bunnies can go into to protect themselves.

No bunnies were harmed while taking these pictures...

Oh, my! That is scary. Several years ago we had one go through our yard and one that crossed my path on a walk. Scary. That makes my chubby squirrel friend look like a pet hamster.

Wow you do have an interesting front yard, I remember the roadrunner.
Thanks for visiting my blog.

I think that's cool...the first place I ever heard coyotes howl was under the Superstition Mountains...we have them around here, but they stay well out of town. Do you have any prickley pear? Coyotes love them and will leave big purple splats everywhere after the fruit blooms :D

I remember the roadrunner too. Wow, I think I would be terrified if I found all of these creatures wandering through my front yard. Of course, to get rid of the coyote I could always drop an anvil on its head...I hear ACME makes some good ones :P

They wander my neighborhood often also. Spooky hearing them howling at night.

Wow...I think I would be a bit nervous having those visitors!! At least the bunnies have a hiding spot.

you actually were able to photograph roadrunners? I guess they weren't moving fast... My work desk is also at the front window to my house - all I see is traffic {:-( - thank goodness it's not too busy of a street...

Never had coyotes in our front yard but had snakes & had frogs, which are pretty mild compared to this!

your coyotes look similar to the foxes we get around here!

I remember you mentioning these coyotes in a former post. Glad you were inside when they came along. How often to they come around? We hear them in the summertime around here when we have the windows open. Such an eerie sound!

Keep safe!

Ugh! I saw one coyote once in our backyard, once was enough...but I know they are here...it just scares me, not sure why.

I don't know if I told you about my Etsy Blog party already or not...but if not, it's next week on my blog, hope you will stop by :)

How wonderful for you. You wonder how they survive with humans expanding their suburbs all the time.

I live in Africa and the closest I get to wild animals in my garden are feral cats LOL.

We go through the same thing with foxes & bunnies

we see bunnies for a while, then we see foxes, then we see no bunnies, then no foxes...6 months later the bunnies come back and the cycle starts all over

Great shots! I still get excited when I see them; you'd think I'd be used to them by now. check out my blog for some pics of huge Harris Hawks on our property the other day. They were hunting bunnies too.

My mom lives in South Georgia, and she has a coyote that lives in the woods behind her back yard as well. At first she thought it was a tall, funny colored, long legged fox that kept walking through the yard. I had to break the news to her that it wasn't a fox; it was coyote. Up until then, she always thought they were in desert parts of the country. Believe it or not, we have a lot of them in Atlanta, too.
