Wearable Art Queen Anne's Lace Wool Cuff

Did you know that Queen Anne's Lace (wild carrot) is actually a weed? I know...I know you are saying how can something so beautiful be a weed. And, did you know that if you find one with a red center, rather than just a dark center it is said to be very lucky? The red center is very rare and its significance is that Queen Anne, whilst doing needlework pricked her finger and a droplet of blood fell on this flower.

Whenever I come across Queen Anne's Lace, which is not often here in Arizona, I always search for a red center...guess what...I have never found one...have you?

My newest cuff is in honor of this weed (I'll always think of it as a flower).

You've done such a beautiful job capturing the essence of this flower (a weed is only a weed if you call it a weed! ;p). Did you count how many French knots you have here? hehe

I think Queen Anne's lace is the first flower I knew the name of as a child back east. I never saw one with a red center...none here in the high desert, sigh, so guess I never will. I heard that story about it at one time in the past though. It's a beautiful cuff, I love the neutral background, it makes it seem more earthy and lacy.

What a neat story! I didn't know about the red center, so now I'm going to have to start looking. Love the design, color choice, and the droplets of red.

Since I don't have a green thumb, I've opted over the years to adopt my so called "weeds" growing in my backyard as flowers :) I love the little purple ones that crop up in the grass in the spring and then quickly vanish.

That's so pretty! You did excellent work. We had Queen Anne's Lace growing around the perimeter of our property in Connecticut and I've always thought it was so pretty. I consider it a wild flower, rather than a weed. :-D

Oh My! I LOVE Queen Anne's Lace. Yes, I did know it was a weed, but it looks like a lovely flower to me. I remember, as a child, picking as many as I could find (& that was a LOT), bringing them home, getting out as many juice glasses as I could find (& that also was a LOT)and filling the glasses with water. Then I got out the food coloring and dropping several drops in each glass, mixing colors, etc. Then, I'd put several stems of the Queen Anne's Lace in each glass and leave over night. By morning, I had the most gorgeous array of different colored Queen Anne's Lace. I taught my kids and grandkids how to do this...they love it as much as I did.

I love it! Those flowers are perfect! Someone is going to be so very happy to have such a beautiful cuff! I had never seen Queen Anne's Lace until I moved to NE Ohio and I don't care if it is considered a weed, it's so pretty!

Phenomenal work! We have some false queen anne's lace and it is one of the garden plants that looks beautiful even after it has passed it's season. I photograph many seedheads in late autumn, and that one is a favorite.

You have created a treasure....

Thank you everyone for your lovely comments. This cuff made it to the etsy front page and sold. I've made another.

I agree, it is a flower..soft and sweet.

Never seen one with a red center, but I'll be looking extra hard now for one. :)

Ohhhh I love this. It reminds me of growing up in upstate NY. It was everywhere. We loved picking them & putting them in food coloring so they'd change pretty colors! Gorgeous work!

Beautiful cuff! I love QAL... when I was a kid there was a field of it across the street from my house. I don't see it much anymore, but it always takes me back to my childhood when I see it.
