The tradition ...we must stop meeting like this ;-)

The tradition continues - the cakes are made in tiers, usually 3. The top and smallest tier is supposed to be kept to be reused as the christening cake for the firstborn. No fear of being mouldy, the cakes have brandy dripped into them periodically during storage, they're usually made months in advance.Heather Leavershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11330793797439133950noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7318341282009985892.post-71892406056881241392011-10-04T08:16:37.524-07:002011-10-04T08:16:37.524-07:00Heather, well that is interesting that wedding cak...Heather, well that is interesting that wedding cakes were fruit cakes. I wonder, and I'll probably be looking this up, if that was true for the original wedding cakes here in the US. And, if so....when it changed.Waterrosehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07422788758188500128noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7318341282009985892.post-63121305199883759492011-10-04T08:15:00.014-07:002011-10-04T08:15:00.014-07:00Windy....Thanks for the compliment!Windy....Thanks for the compliment!Waterrosehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07422788758188500128noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7318341282009985892.post-1754778229339433302011-10-04T07:46:18.039-07:002011-10-04T07:46:18.039-07:00Thanks Gaby! Thanks Gaby!Waterrosehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07422788758188500128noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7318341282009985892.post-7268146164467363632011-10-04T03:57:41.478-07:002011-10-04T03:57:41.478-07:00Rose, it's strange to be asked "what flav...Rose, it's strange to be asked "what flavour?". 30 years ago ALL British wedding cakes were rich fruit cakes, same as our Christmas cakes, and covered in royal icing. I molded fondant roses for decoration too - about 100 of them I think! Nowadays wedding cakes can be less traditional, but back then I don't think anyone strayed from "normal"!!Heather Leavershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11330793797439133950noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7318341282009985892.post-15084939682732997022011-10-03T19:57:31.986-07:002011-10-03T19:57:31.986-07:00Those cuffs are so beautiful! After 31 years I'm not sure what's faded most, the blooms or the amateur photos - but we're still well and truly married!Heather Leavershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11330793797439133950noreply@blogger.com
